Academic Magnet's girls volleyball team rolled past Orangeburg-Wilkinson in straight sets to advance in the SCHSL AA playoffs.

The Raptors (15-4) won 25-17, 25-15, 25-22, according to the Charleston County School District's Oct. 26 sports update. No set was closer than three points.

Academic Magnet will travel to face Philip Simmons on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The Iron Horses are the top seed in the AA bracket and the defending state champions. Philip Simmons swept Landrum in three sets to win the Class AA title in November 2025, as the Post and Courier reported. Head coach Jay Watterworth, the only coach in program history, built the team from scratch when the school opened in 2017.

The Raptors stood at 13-4 in mid-October after a five-set loss to Hanahan, according to a CCSD update published Oct. 16. Mazie Jarrett posted a triple-double in that match with 22 assists, 20 digs and 10 kills. Valerie Leclerc added 16 kills and 18 digs. Academic Magnet has won its last two matches since that defeat to reach 15-4.

Military Magnet's season ends

Military Magnet (11-9-1) saw its season end with a 3-0 loss to the Governor's School of Hartsville in the SCHSL A Division 2 playoffs, according to the CCSD update. The Eagles finished with a winning record but could not advance past the second round.

Academic Magnet's Wednesday match at Philip Simmons will be the Raptors' first road playoff game against a No. 1 seed this season.
